Prepare for your consultation

/app/profile·/app/consultations·Requires a booked consultation

A consultation is a fixed block of time on a video call. What you put into your account beforehand decides how much of it is spent establishing facts and how much is spent on your situation.

Nothing here is required to attend. All of it is grounded in what Lexpoint actually reads.

Check what the booking took from your profile

Section titled “Check what the booking took from your profile”

The scheduling window is prefilled with the name and email on your Lexpoint account — not typed fresh each time. If your profile name is out of date, the session is booked under the wrong name.

Your residence country matters more than it looks. It decides which Initial Consultation you are offered, and the two are different calendars with different tax treatment. Set it correctly in Personal Information before you book, not after.

Anything you type into the scheduling window’s own questions is stored with the session, so a question you want answered is worth writing there rather than remembering to raise it.

Fill in the facts a proposal is built from

Section titled “Fill in the facts a proposal is built from”

If the consultation leads to a proposal, the proposal is generated from your profile rather than from notes taken during the call. These fields feed it directly:

WhereWhat it feeds
Personal InformationYour legal name, date of birth, country of residence, citizenship, and current status in Canada. These appear on the proposal and on the signed agreement.
Family MembersWhether a spouse or dependents are covered — which changes the fee and, later, who is added to the case.

Everything else in your profile — work experience, education, language tests, trade certificates, annual income, job offers, letters of acceptance — is what your standing is calculated from. Having it in place means the conversation can start from where you actually stand.

If you have an ImmiReport, it is the most compact statement of your position that exists in the product, and its reference code is carried onto any proposal that follows. Generating or refreshing it before the call means you are both looking at the same picture.

See ImmiReport.

Neither is needed for the consultation itself, but both sit between a proposal and your acceptance of it, and both take longer than people expect:

  • A phone number on your account. Canadian and US numbers need an SMS code before they count as verified.
  • Identity verification. It runs from the proposal, and acceptance waits for it to finish.

Doing them in advance means a proposal you decide to accept is not held up by an SMS code.

Consultations are video calls. The session row in Consultations carries the join link, the start time in your local time zone, and a countdown that turns into Live now when the session begins. The join action only appears once a meeting link exists for that session.

If something has come up, the same row carries Reschedule and Cancel. Both are better than a missed session, which is recorded as No show.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to complete my whole profile before a consultation?

No. Nothing blocks the call. But the parts of your profile that a proposal is later built from are the same facts a consultation spends its time establishing, so filling them in first shifts the conversation from collecting facts to using them.

I booked with the wrong name. Does it matter?

The booking is prefilled from your Lexpoint profile, so a wrong name there is a wrong name on the session. Correct it in Personal Information and it will be right on the next booking.

Where do I add a question I want answered?

The scheduling window's own questions are saved with your session, so anything you write there travels with the booking.
