# Work experience

Each job is one record at
[**Profile → Work Experience**](https://my.lexpoint.io/app/profile/work-experience). The form has
four sections — **Location**, **Role**, **Terms**, and **Pay** — and the country you pick in the
first one decides which fields the rest of the form asks for.

## Section 1 — Location

| Field | What it means | Required |
|---|---|---|
| **Country of Work** | Must be selected from Lexpoint's country list. | Yes |
| **City in Canada** | Searchable Canadian locations list. Appears when the country is Canada. *Province is set from the city you pick.* | Yes for Canadian work |
| **State** | US state list. Appears when the country is United States. | Yes for US work |
| **City** | Free text. Appears for US work alongside the state. | No |
| **City/Location** | Free text. Appears for every other country. | No |

Canadian and US work are validated against fixed lists — a Canadian city or a US state that is not
on the list is rejected. Everywhere else the city is free text.

## Section 2 — Role

| Field | What it means | Required |

| **Occupation (NOC Code)** | Searchable by NOC code or job title. Stored as a five-digit code. | Yes |
| **Job Title** | The title you held. Pre-filled from the NOC selection and editable. | Yes |

Choosing a NOC loads two panels: **NOC Information** with the code, title, and TEER level, and
**Program Eligibility**. The info icon opens the full NOC detail with duties, requirements, and the
program list.

## Section 3 — Terms

| Field | What it means | Required |
|---|---|---|
| **Start Date** | Cannot be in the future. | Yes |
| **End Date** | Hidden when Current job is on. Must be after the start date and not in the future. | Yes for past jobs |
| **Current job** | Toggle — *Still working in this role*. Turning it on clears the end date. | No |
| **Permanent position** | Toggle. Appears only for Canadian work. | No |
| **LMIA or job offer** | Toggle — *Supported by an LMIA or employer-specific work offer*. Appears only for Canadian work. | No |
| **Self-employed** | Toggle. | No |
| **Work during full-time study** | Toggle. | No |

The section closes with a note that self-employment and work during full-time study often do not
count toward CEC. Those two toggles change how the job is treated in the totals below — see
[Which jobs count toward the totals](#which-jobs-count-toward-the-totals).

## Section 4 — Pay

| Field | What it means | Required |
|---|---|---|
| **Work schedule** | Hours per week, between 1 and 80. *How many hours you worked each week. Full-time = 30+.* | Yes |
| **Hourly pay rate** | Canadian dollars per hour, up to 500. Appears only for Canadian work, where the form notes it as an OINP compliance input. | Yes for Canadian work |

Once a NOC and a location are set, the section loads a wage benchmark and shows whether your rate
meets the **median** and **low** reference wages for that occupation and place.

## Which jobs count toward the totals

Three tiles sit above the list: **Total years**, **Canadian**, and **Foreign**. They do not simply
add up your date ranges. Lexpoint marks each job as counting or not, and the tiles sum only the ones
that count, using the eligible days calculated for each job rather than the raw span.

A job is excluded when any of the following applies, and the card shows the reason:

| Reason shown | What triggers it |
|---|---|
| **Over 10 years old** | The start date is more than ten years ago. |
| **TEER 4+ (not CEC)** | Canadian work whose NOC TEER is outside 0–3. |
| **Self-employed (not CEC)** | Canadian work with the Self-employed toggle on. |
| **During study (not CEC)** | Canadian work with the Work during full-time study toggle on. |
| **TEER 4+ (not FSW/CEC)** | Non-Canadian work whose NOC TEER is outside 0–3. |

These are Lexpoint's own inclusion rules for the numbers it shows you. Whether a particular job

The list can be filtered with the **All**, **Canadian**, and **Foreign** chips.

## NOC fit checks

Each job card carries a **Check NOC fit** action — *Upload a letter — Lexi scores employment
checklist and NOC fit*. Once a check has run, the chip becomes **NOC fit · Pass** or **NOC fit ·
Fail** (pass only when both the letter check and the NOC check pass), **NOC fit · Stale** when the
job has changed since the check, or **NOC fit · Retry** when the check failed. Selecting the chip
opens the full assessment.

## Adding and editing

1. Open [**Profile → Work Experience**](https://my.lexpoint.io/app/profile/work-experience).
2. Select **Add Work Experience**.
3. Work through Location, Role, Terms, and Pay. The last section's button saves.
4. On the list, jobs sort with the primary job first, then most recent start date. The pencil icon
   reopens a job.

A job with no country recorded is flagged in red on the card — those records predate the country
requirement and need the field filled in.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why does Lexpoint insist I pick my city from a list?

For Canadian work the city must come from Lexpoint's Canadian locations list, because the city is what selects the wage benchmark and the province used in provincial checks. A typed city that is not on the list is rejected.

### Why is hourly wage required for one job and not another?

Hourly wage is required only for work in Canada. The form says so directly — "Hourly wage is only required for Canadian work experience."

### Why do my total years not match the dates I entered?

The tiles above the list count only jobs Lexpoint marks as counting, and they use the eligible days calculated per job rather than the raw date range. A job that does not count shows the reason on its card.
