# Letters of acceptance

A letter of acceptance records study you have been accepted for but not yet begun. Study you have
already done goes in [Education](/individuals/profile/education/) instead.

The form at
[**Profile → Letters of Acceptance**](https://my.lexpoint.io/app/profile/letters-of-acceptance) has
four sections: **Institution**, **Program**, **Funding**, and **Attestation**.

## Section 1 — Institution

| Field | What it means | Required |
|---|---|---|
| **Post-secondary school** | Toggle. On: college, university, or other DLI — the search fills city and province. Off: primary or secondary school, entered manually with no DLI. | — |
| DLI search | Search Canadian institutions by name, city, province, or DLI number. Appears when Post-secondary school is on and manual entry is off. | Yes for post-secondary |
| **Enter DLI manually** | Toggle — *Use when the school is missing from search*. | — |
| **DLI Number** | The DLI number from your letter of acceptance. | Yes for post-secondary |
| **School Name** | Full name of the institution. | Yes |
| **Province** | The province the school is in. | Yes |
| **City/Town** | The city the school is in. | Yes |
| **School Address** | Full street address of the institution. | Yes |
| **Conditional acceptance** | Toggle — *LOA has conditions that must be met before final acceptance*. | No |

School name, province, and city fill in from the DLI directory when you pick a school from the
search; they become editable fields when you enter the DLI manually or when the school is primary or
secondary.

## Section 2 — Program

| Field | What it means | Required |
|---|---|---|
| **Level of Study** | Primary School, Secondary School, PTC/TCST/DVS/AVS, CEGEP (Pre-university or Technical), College (Certificate, Diploma, or Applied degree), University (Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate, or Other Studies), ESL/FSL, ESL/FSL and College, ESL/FSL and University, Other Studies, or Not Applicable. | Yes |
| **Field of Study** | The discipline. | Yes for anything above Secondary School; optional otherwise |
| **Student ID (Optional)** | Assigned by the institution. | No |

| **Study End Date** | Must be after the start date. | Yes |

Level of Study is the switch for the rest of the form: anything other than Primary School or
Secondary School counts as post-secondary, and post-secondary requires both a DLI number and a field
of study.

## Section 3 — Funding

| Field | What it means | Required |
|---|---|---|
| **Room & Board (CAD/year)** | Living costs for a year. Pre-filled on a new record from the IRCC financial requirement for your family size. | Yes |
| **Other Costs (CAD/year)** | Anything beyond tuition and living costs. | Yes |
| **Total Tuition Fee (CAD)** | Tuition for the program. | Yes |
| **Total Cost of Studies** | Not entered — Room & Board + Other Costs + Tuition, recalculated as you type. | Calculated |
| **Funds Available (CAD)** | What you have. Starts from the calculated total and stays editable. | Yes |
| **Funding Source** | Myself, Parents, or Other. | Yes |
| **Other Source (Specify)** | Free text. Appears when the source is Other. | No |

All four money fields must be zero or more. If **Funds Available** is above zero but below the total
cost of studies, the form shows a warning naming both amounts and noting that the gap could lead to
a refusal.

are meant to replace with your real numbers, not a target.

## Section 4 — Attestation

## Frequently asked questions

### My school is not in the DLI search. What do I do?

Turn on "Enter DLI manually" and type the DLI number from your letter of acceptance, along with the school name, province, and city. The search is the preferred route because it fills city and province from the directory.

### Why is my study start date rejected?

Study Start Date must be today or a future date — a letter of acceptance describes study you have not started. Past study belongs in Education instead.

### What does marking a letter primary do?

Only one letter of acceptance can be primary at a time. The form labels it as the one used for study permit eligibility.
