# Language tests

Each sitting of a test is one record at
[**Profile → Language Tests**](https://my.lexpoint.io/app/profile/language-tests). The form has
three sections: **Test**, **Details**, and **Scores**.

You enter raw band scores. Lexpoint derives the CLB.

## Section 1 — Test

| Field | What it means | Required |

| **Test Type** | English: IELTS (0.0-9.0), CELPIP (1-12), PTE Core (10-90). French: TEF Canada, TCF Canada. The list appears once a language is chosen. | Yes |
| **TEF Test Period** | Oct 1, 2019 - Dec 10, 2023, or After Dec 10, 2023. Appears only for TEF. *Scoring system changed on Dec 10, 2023.* | Yes for TEF |

The section closes with the rule that decides which test Lexpoint uses: *Your test with the highest
overall CLB is marked primary for CRS automatically.*

## Section 2 — Details

| Field | What it means | Required |

| **Test Date** | The day you sat the exam. Cannot be in the future. | Yes |
| **Registration Number** | Your test registration number. Marked *Optional* in the form. | No |

## Section 3 — Scores

Four fields — **Reading**, **Writing**, **Listening**, **Speaking** — all required. The accepted
range and step change with the test you chose:

Until you pick a test type the fields read *Select test type first.*

### The CLB preview

As soon as all four scores are filled in, a **CLB preview** panel appears showing an **Overall CLB**
figure and the CLB for each of the four skills.

Lexpoint converts each raw score to a CLB level using the table for that test — for TEF, the table
for the period you selected — and sets your **overall CLB to the lowest of the four**. One weak
skill therefore sets your overall level regardless of how strong the other three are.

This conversion is a calculation Lexpoint performs on the numbers you enter. What a given CLB level

## The list

Four tiles sit above the list: **Total Tests**, **English**, **French**, and **Highest CLB**. The
list can be filtered with the **All**, **English**, and **French** chips, and sorts by primary first,
then highest overall CLB, then most recent.

Each card can carry these chips:

| Chip | What it means |
|---|---|
| **Primary** | The test with the highest overall CLB. Set automatically. |
| **Expired** | The record's expiry date has passed. |
| **Invalid** | The record is flagged as not valid. |

Cards also show the expiry month and year where one is recorded, in red once it has passed.

## Adding and editing

1. Open [**Profile → Language Tests**](https://my.lexpoint.io/app/profile/language-tests).
2. Select **Add Language Test**.
3. Work through Test, Details, and Scores. The last section's button saves.
4. On the list, the pencil icon reopens a test.

Saving confirms with *Language test updated! Your score will be updated shortly.* — the report is
recalculated separately, not at the moment you save. See

## Frequently asked questions

### How does Lexpoint work out my CLB?

Each of your four raw band scores is converted to a CLB level using the conversion table for that test, and your overall CLB is the lowest of the four. It updates live as you type, before you save.

### Which of my tests does Lexpoint use?

The test with the highest overall CLB is marked primary automatically. You do not choose it, and adding a stronger test moves the marker.

### Why does Lexpoint ask which TEF period my test is from?

TEF scoring changed on 10 December 2023 and the two systems convert differently. The form asks so it applies the right table.
