# How your profile is used

Your profile is not one of several places Lexpoint keeps facts about you. It is the only one. Every
score, every eligibility check, and every pre-filled form starts from these records.

That is worth knowing in two directions: what an edit affects, and why an edit does not take effect
instantly.

The same personal, work, education, and certificate records are composed into a résumé PDF when you
download one. There is no second résumé to keep in sync — edit those records and download again. See
[privacy and your data](/individuals/account/privacy/).

### Personal information reaches the furthest

Four fields — your citizenship country, country of residence, current immigration status, and
immigration goal — decide which version of Lexpoint you see. A Canadian citizen living in Canada, or
a permanent resident, gets a different dashboard and a different set of cards from someone on a
temporary status or living abroad. Changing any of those four can change what appears in your
navigation.

## What happens when you save

Saving a profile record does **not** recalculate your report. This is deliberate.

1. The record is written and you see a confirmation — for example *Changes saved! Your score will be
   updated shortly.*
2. Your report is marked as needing recalculation.
3. A strip appears across your report pages: *Immireport will refresh in a few minutes*, with the
   longer explanation *Your profile changed, so this report is queued for recalculation. Scores and
   eligibility refresh automatically.*
4. The recalculation runs on a schedule and the strip is replaced by an **Up to date** badge.

With **ImmiReport Pro**, the strip carries a **Refresh now** button that recalculates immediately.
Without it, the strip offers the upgrade instead and the scheduled refresh runs either way.

:::note[Why not recalculate on every keystroke]
A recalculation runs your whole profile through every programme check. Doing that on each field edit
would mean your score jumped around while you were halfway through entering a job. Batching it means
the number you see reflects a finished edit, not a partial one.

Some derived flags follow the same pattern rather than updating live. The
[annual income](/individuals/profile/annual-income/) page says so explicitly: a record over the
threshold shows a neutral note until the recalculation sets the flag, then a green banner.

## Profile data in IRCC forms

When you fill in an IRCC form in a case, Lexpoint prefills it from your profile. The forms that do
this today are IMM1294, IMM1295, IMM5257, IMM5708, IMM5709, and IMM5710, and the fields they pull
are your first and last name, date of birth, citizenship country, country of residence, current
immigration status, marital status, whether you have post-secondary education, and your email and
phone.

Two rules matter here:

- **Prefill fills the form, not the database.** Values are placed into the form you are looking at;
  nothing is saved until you save the form.
- **It never writes back.** Editing a prefilled value in a form does not change your profile. To
  change the underlying fact, edit it in your profile.

Where a form is being filled for someone on a case, Lexpoint can prefill from that case's applicant
record instead, and from a previous application where one exists.

## What your profile does not decide

Lexpoint calculates and displays. Whether you qualify for a programme, what a score means, and what
IRCC or a province will do with an application are not product behaviour and are not asserted here.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why has my score not changed after editing my profile?

Editing never recalculates on the spot. Saving marks your report as needing recalculation and it refreshes automatically within a few minutes. ImmiReport Pro adds a "Refresh now" button that does it immediately.

### Does filling in an IRCC form change my profile?

No, and the reverse is true too — prefill copies profile values into the form you are filling in, and nothing is written back to your profile. Your profile is edited only from the profile pages.

### Which profile records are shared across cases?

Your family directory is explicitly built as one reusable list rather than a per-application form. Profile records in general are yours, not a case's.
