# Link with your partner

A household link connects your Lexpoint account with your spouse's or common-law partner's. Once
you are connected, each of your ImmiReports uses the other's real details wherever a spouse or
partner factor applies, instead of what was typed on a family form. Connected means shared: there
is no separate sharing switch.

Links live at
[**Settings → Associations → Family**](https://my.lexpoint.io/app/settings/associations?tab=family).

## Before you start

- Your spouse or common-law partner is on your [family record](/individuals/profile/family/), with
  the email they use for Lexpoint, or will sign up with.
- Your profile has your date of birth and citizenship. Without them the invite is refused with
  *Complete your profile first (date of birth and citizenship) before sending household invites.*
- Neither of you is already in an active household link.

## What connecting shares

**Settings → Family** lists it under **What connecting shares**:

- Education history
- Language test results (English and French)
- Canadian work experience
- Date of birth, citizenship and immigration status
- Sponsor-eligibility answers

Where these facts appear:

| Where | What |
|---|---|
| Each ImmiReport | The spouse and partner factors are computed from the other person's own records. |
| Wherever that report is viewed or shared | The same derived facts, including on a shared ImmiReport link and in a representative's view if you are their client. |
| The other person's family record | Your name, date of birth, citizenship and residence status. |

Never shared by connecting: your documents, files, cases, or employer connections, access to each
other's account, or the rest of your ImmiReport.

## Send the invite

1. Open [**Settings → Associations → Family**](https://my.lexpoint.io/app/settings/associations?tab=family)
   and choose **Invites & History**.
2. Find your spouse or partner. The row shows their name, relationship, email, and **Not invited**.
3. Read the line under the button. It states what inviting means: *Inviting connects your
   accounts: each of your ImmiReports may use the other's education, language results, work
   history, status and family details wherever a spouse or partner factor applies, including where
   a report is viewed or shared.*
4. Choose **Invite**. The page confirms *Household invite sent.*

Sending the invite is your consent. Your partner's is given when they accept.

Light mode, 1440×900 cropped to 1383×776. Redact the header name and email and the spouse's name and email.
```
The row then tracks the invite:
| Status | What it shows | Actions |
|---|---|---|
| **Not invited** | *No invite has been sent yet.* | **Invite** |
| **Invite sent** | When it was sent and when it expires | **Resend**, **Revoke** |
| **Invite expired** | When it expired. *You can resend.* | **Resend**, **Revoke** |
| **Disconnected** | *Previously connected. You can re-invite.* | **Re-invite** |
An invite lasts 14 days. **Revoke** asks *Revoke this invite?* first, and the link in the email
stops working.
If your partner already has a Lexpoint account and their own family record of you has a different
email or date of birth, the invite is stopped before it is sent. An **Invite Blocked** dialog names
the field that conflicts. Agree on the correct details, update them, and try again. If your partner
is already linked with someone else, the page says *Invite blocked: this person already has an
active household link.*
## What your partner does
1. They open the link in the invitation email. If they are not signed in, Lexpoint asks them to
   sign up or sign in first. A new account completes onboarding before the next step.
2. They land on the **Household connection** page:
   *[Your name] invited you to connect as their spouse* (or *common-law partner*).
3. **What connecting does** lists what you will both share and what is never shared.
4. They tick the consent box and choose **Connect accounts**, or **Not now** to leave without
   connecting. Nothing is written until they confirm.
```media
id: household-invite-consent
type: screenshot
caption: The invitee's Household connection page, with what connecting shares, what it never shares, and the consent box.
shot: /app/household/invites/claim?invite=<demo token> signed in as the invited demo account — heading, "What connecting does" card with both lists, consent checkbox unticked, Connect accounts and Not now. Light mode, 1440×900 cropped to 1383×776. Redact both names.
```
They must accept from the invited email address. Signed in as anyone else, the page reads *This
invite was sent to a different email address* and offers **Sign in with the invited address**.
The page also explains an invite that has expired, was withdrawn, or was already accepted, and
refuses the person who sent it.
## When you are connected
- Both profiles' marital status is set to **Married** for a spouse or **Common-Law** for a
  common-law partner.
- Both ImmiReports are queued to recalculate with the linked facts.
- **Household Account**, on **Settings → Family**, shows your partner's name, *Spouse linked on*
  (or *Common-Law Partner linked on*) the date, and their email, with *Your ImmiReports use each
  other's real details for spouse and partner factors.* **What connecting shares** expands the list
  above.
```media
id: household-connected-card
type: screenshot

shot: /app/settings/associations?tab=family on a demo account with an active household link — the connected partner card with name, "Spouse linked on" date, email, Disconnect, and "What connecting shares" opened. Light mode, 1440×900 cropped to 1383×776. Redact the header name and email and the partner's name and email.
```
## Disconnect
Either of you can end the link. On **Household Account**, choose **Disconnect** and confirm
*Disconnect this household account? This will remove the active household link.*
Disconnecting ends the sharing. Both ImmiReports are queued to recalculate. Until each one does, it
keeps the scores it computed from the link. Your partner's row in **Invites & History** then reads
**Disconnected**, and you can **Re-invite**.
:::caution[Changing your marital status also ends the link]
If you change your marital status in
[Personal information](/individuals/profile/personal-info/) to anything other than Married or
Common-Law, the link ends. Both of you lose the spouse or partner row on your family records, and
your partner's marital status is set to Single.
## The dashboard prompt
If your family record has a spouse or common-law partner who is not connected and has no pending
invite, your dashboard can show *Invite [name] to connect your accounts*. **Invite [name] →** opens
**Invites & History**. When no email is on file, **Add their email to invite →** opens their family
record instead. **Not now** dismisses the prompt, and it does not come back.
## Frequently asked questions
### Is there a switch to connect without sharing?
No. Connected means shared. Sending the invite is your consent, and accepting it is your partner's. Disconnect is the only control on a link, and it ends the sharing.
### Can my partner see my documents or cases?
No. Connecting shares the facts your ImmiReports need for spouse and partner factors. It never shares documents, files, cases, employer connections, or access to each other's account.
### How long does an invite last?
14 days. After that, Invites & History shows it as expired and you can resend it.
### My partner opened the link but is told it was sent to a different email address. What now?
They must accept from the invited address. Either they sign in with that address, or you correct their email on your family record and resend the invite.
