# Deleting your account

Removing your profile is not reversible, and it does not do quite what "delete my account" usually
means. The page describes it precisely: it *erases your assessment profile and related app data,
archives eligible cases/applications, removes your login, and signs you out.*

It lives at [**Settings → Privacy & Data**](https://my.lexpoint.io/app/settings/privacy) under
**Remove profile**, in a section marked **Danger Zone**.

:::danger[Export first]
The page says it in one line: *Export anything you need first.* Once this runs, your profile data is
gone and archived cases no longer show in the portal. See
[Privacy and your data](/individuals/account/privacy/) for the export.
:::

## What happens

| Your data | What removal does |
|---|---|
| **Assessment profile and related app data** | Erased |
| **Eligible cases and applications** | Archived — they stop appearing in the client portal |
| **Your login** | Removed, and you are signed out |
| **Your email address** | Kept on a minimal account record |

The distinction between *erased* and *archived* matters. Your profile — the answers, history, and
scores — is destroyed. Cases and applications are archived rather than destroyed, because they are
records of professional work involving other people.

## What stops it

Two situations block removal, both to prevent damage that could not be undone:

- **An active subscription.** You are told to *Cancel your active subscription first in Billing
before deleting this account.* See [billing and plan](/individuals/account/billing/).
- **An active shared case.** If your account is attached to one, you are told to contact support *so
we can archive it safely without breaking another case.* Someone else's live matter is not
  collateral for your account closure.

## Removing your profile

1. Open [**Settings → Privacy & Data**](https://my.lexpoint.io/app/settings/privacy) and choose
   **Remove profile**.
2. Type your account email into **Confirm your account email**. It must match exactly — a near miss
is rejected with *Type your account email exactly to confirm removal.*
3. Tick the acknowledgement:

   > I understand my profile and assessment data will be erased, my login removed, and archived
   > cases/applications will not come back automatically. I understand my email is retained for
   > re-link after a verified signup.

4. Press **Remove my profile & sign out**.

You are signed out as it completes and land on a confirmation page: **Your profile has been
removed** — *Your assessment data in the app was erased and you were signed out. Self-owned cases and
applications that we archived no longer show in the client portal.*

## Coming back

The confirmation page keeps one door open: *Your email stays on file — you can sign up again with it
after you verify.*

The settings page says the same in more detail — your email stays on a minimal account record so you
can sign up again with the same address, and after email verification portal access is restored and
you start with a blank profile.

**Blank is the operative word.** A new signup is a fresh start, not a restoration. The acknowledgement
you ticked said archived cases and applications will not come back automatically, and they do not.

## If you only want less of Lexpoint

Removal is a large instrument for several smaller problems. Before you use it:

- **Too much email?** Turn off the optional categories in
  [notification preferences](/individuals/account/notifications/).
- **Worried who can see your file?** Revoke each grant from
[access and sharing](/individuals/account/access-and-sharing/) — that closes access without
  destroying your data.
- **Paying for something you do not use?** Cancel the subscription from
[billing and plan](/individuals/account/billing/) and keep the free account.

Any of those is reversible. This is not.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I undo it?

No. The acknowledgement you tick says archived cases and applications will not come back automatically. Export anything you want to keep before you start, not after.

### Can I sign up again with the same email?

Yes. The page states that your email stays on a minimal account record so you can sign up again with the same address, and that after email verification portal access is restored and you start with a blank profile.

### Why is the button refusing to work?

Two things block it. An active subscription must be cancelled in Billing first, and an account attached to an active shared case has to be handled by support so another person's case is not broken.

### Does deleting my account delete my case?

No. Eligible cases and applications are archived, not destroyed. They stop appearing in the client portal.
